We are a catholic Hospital founded in response to the dire need of the common man in Nigeria for quality and affordable eye health care services which though available in lagos,  are  very expensive. The hospital is run/ managed by  Sisters of the  Congregation of the Handmaids of the holy child Jesus a Religious society of consecrated women in the Catholic Church.
The Eye centre  started  at a temporary site, in  one of the consulting rooms in the main Ancilla Catholic hospital  in the Iju area of lagos State, in January  of  2003, as an outreach centre of the ECWA Eye hospital in Kano, with an ophthalmic Nurse and a visiting consultant ophthalmologist, Dr. Kirupananthan, the then Medical Director of the ECWA Eye Hospital who  visited the hospital 3 or 4 times a year to run clinic and perform sugeries.
It was moved to its permanent site in November of 2006 when the two story building ,built and equipped  with the help of the CBM  (Australia and Italy), was commissioned by the then Superior General of the  congregation of the HHCJ, Mother Mary Langley, in an opening ceremony which was followed by a week long outreach programme by Dr. Kiru. In attendance also were , Sr Dr. Josephine Ngama, the then acting medical director of the  Ancilla Catholic Hospital,  the project coordinator of the Eye Centre,  Sr. Pauline Anyanwu,  and Sr. Dr. Caroline Okeke  , an optometrist,
In june of 2008, Sr.Dr. Jane Ogie, an Ophthalmologist,  took  over running of the eye centre. Thus it began to be run as a 32 bed hospital, with daily out patient  (OPD) clinics and surgeries  twice a week.
